So, my attempt to wait until next year failed miserably.  Once again, I'm going to see Romeo and Juliet again tomorrow night thanks to a bit of persuasion on April's part to see it with her haha.  This time Julie Kent is dancing the role of Juliet and Angel Corella dances Romeo once again.  I'm pretty excited about this pairing; Corella is an excellent Romeo while Kent is a sweeter Juliet vs. Vishneva, who portrays Juliet as a vivacious all or nothing girl.  Getting tickets is almost impossible.  The last day of performances is on Saturday, and both 2pm and 8pm shows are completely sold out and there's only standing room tickets left.  I think April and I spent an hour trying to secure 2 tickets for tomorrow night's performance, and we finally got them!  There was nothing but family circle tickets left, but just as we were about to give up someone miraculously released 2 seats in the orchestra prime section from their cart online for us to claim.  They're killlller seats too; right up front but not too close so that the conductor or curtains doesn't block your view.

I found some videos on youtube...it's with Corella and Ferri.  You really should watch them (they're only a few minutes each), the first two are breathtakingly beautiful, the third is heartwrenching followed by the fourth, which I put in just to show the end.  I think Jen will enjoy them since she loves the ballet so much .

The balcony scene, where Romeo and Juliet dance for the first time.

This is when Romeo leaving and Juliet desperately wants him to stay.  It's their final dance together, and what follows this is Juliet going to the Friar where he gives her the sleeping potion.

At Juliet's grave.  Romeo kills Paris, then tries sooo hard to dance with Juliet.  The score is unbelievable.

Juliet wakes and finds Romeo and Paris dead.  She tries to wake Romeo, then stabs herself.

Last night I saw the American Ballet Theatre perform Sir Kenneth MacMillan's production of Romeo and Juliet at the Metropolitan Opera House.  Diana Vishneva danced Juliet's part and Angel Corella danced Romeo's part.  I see this particular ballet every year the ABT comes to the Met, and yet it never fails to move me.  Prokofiev's score is hauntingly beautiful and never gets old no matter how many times I play it on my ipod.  Both Corella and Vishneva danced beautifully, although I felt that Vishneva overpowered Corella a bit since she is such a reknown dancer.
I cried twice during this ballet.  The first was the balcony scene where Romeo and Juliet danced together for the first time.  The portrayal of innocence and pure love was so ethereal, and I've never seen so much tenderness shown through dance that night while the orchestra played the famous theme of Romeo and Juliet.  The second time was when Romeo sees Juliet dead.  He desperately tries to wake her and he takes her body in his arms and tries to dance the dance that they did at the balcony.  The whole time she remains limps in his arms while he tries to lift her and twirl her.  The heartwrenching score to this part really resonates in your heart and makes you fully understand the term tragedy.  I wasn't alone in crying; tissues were being pulled out left and right...even men!
I am sorely tempted to buy tickets again and to see it this week.  Romeo and Juliet is only showing this one week, and unfortunately Diana Vishneva only danced last night, (which is lucky that I saw it yesterday).  However, I think Corella will be dancing Saturday night's show though.  It'll either be this or Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake.  Romeo and Juliet is still by far my favorite ballet though, and I just don't think I can wait till next year...

Here's Vishneva and Corella dancing Romeo and Juliet.
